School Direction

Our main focus continues to be an effective teaching/learning practice that demonstrates measurable improvement to student learning outcomes.

Facilities

•  All classrooms, Technology/Science Centre, Resource Centre and Administration buildings are air-conditioned. Four classrooms are in modern demountable buildings; and Special Education and Learning Support services operate out of the original 2 storey building.

•  Junior play areas have permanent, suitably-designed outdoor play equipment

•  A three-tiered, shaded oval includes a 300m running track, 2 netball courts, a hockey/soccer field and 2 cricket practice wickets. There is an enclosed multi purpose area with two mini tennis courts with basketball hoops.

•  Every classroom has at least three IBM computers for student use, with most double classes having 6-8 workstations available. All computers are networked and connected to the the school Internet.

•  There are two laptop classes operational and a number of classrooms have interactive whiteboards.

•  A Technology Centre provides the latest in digital technologies to facilitate learning for whole classes.

•  A Science Centre provides classes with the facilities for a range of learning activities.

•  Wheelchair access is provided to ground floor classrooms, library, tuckshop, office and disabled toilets.

School and Community Features

•The experience of teaching staff ranges from 3 years to over 20 years. There are 4 male classroom teachers. Eleven classroom teachers have 10 years of experience or more.

•  Approximately 2% of children enrolled are in need of Special Education programs.

•  Approximately 15% of children need academic Learning Support.

•  ITAS Tutors Support Indigenous students within the classroom.

•  After School and Vacation Care programs operate at the school.

•  30% of children are from Aboriginal or Islander background.

•  Computers are used extensively as a tool for learning.

 

Laptop Class

In 2008, students in one Year 6 class were be provided with laptops as an integral tool in their learning.

In 2009 there is a Year 6 and Year 7 laptop class.

 

Student Welfare

Justice and Equity Team
This group includes a Guidance Officer and considers personal, behavioural and academic needs of students.

Behaviour Management
Each new family enrolling students receives a copy of the school's Behaviour Management Program. It is a balanced and comprehensive program, well accepted and supported by parents.  The focus is on rewarding the excellent behaviour of students at Andergrove State School.

Student Council
A Student Council meets to discuss needs of students. School Captains and Vice Captains liaise with Administration on matters concerning the student body.
